Beak LIMS

WHY BEAK LIMS

Built for African laboratories. Engineered without compromise.

See how Beak LIMS compares to cheap basic tools and expensive foreign software, and what you get when you choose us to run your laboratory.

The reality of LIMS pricing: you get what you pay for.

When you evaluate a laboratory information management system, it is easy to look only at the sticker price. But in a clinical or analytical laboratory, software is not a digital filing cabinet. It holds your data integrity, your sample chain of custody and the records your quality team relies on.

  • One fixed price per plan

Your monthly fee is set by your plan, not by how many logins you create. Add bench staff within your plan's range and the price does not move.

  • Every module, every plan

Starter runs the same Beak LIMS as Enterprise. Plans differ by users, monthly accessions, included instrument connections and support level.

  • Sized by accessions

Plans are sized by registered samples per month, the number your lab already tracks. Several tests on one sample count once.

Head-to-head comparison

How Beak LIMS stacks up against the two alternatives laboratories most often consider.

  • Pricing

    Budget basic tools
Low entry price. Modules, users and interfaces are often billed on top.
    Global SaaS vendors
Sold by the seat, with a minimum. Entry plans often start at 5 users at $171–$275 each: $855–$1,375 a month even if only 3 people log in, often billed a year upfront.
    Beak LIMS
Starter is $250 a month for 2 to 5 users. You pay for your plan, not per seat, and you can pay monthly.
  • Modules included

    Budget basic tools
Basic registration and reporting. Microbiology, worksheets and reflex rules are often missing or extra.
    Global SaaS vendors
Core features first. Reflex testing, QC and inventory often sit on higher tiers or paid add-ons.
    Beak LIMS
Every module in every plan: microbiology, worksheets, reflex testing, QC, inventory, billing and more.
  • Instrument interfacing

    Budget basic tools
Rarely supported, or needs custom scripts.
    Global SaaS vendors
Supported, usually through paid professional services.
    Beak LIMS
    1, 2 or 4 HL7/ASTM connections included. More from $10 a month each after a compatibility review.
  • Enterprise grade, African ready

    Budget basic tools
Built for single small labs. Little audit, role control or multi-site support.
    Global SaaS vendors
Enterprise grade, but designed and priced for US or European labs first. African sites get the same product without local support.
    Beak LIMS
Enterprise grade: multi-laboratory, role-based access, full audit trail, HL7/ASTM interfacing and offline-capable sites. Built in Harare, Zimbabwe, so it also fits African volumes, staffing and infrastructure.
  • Support

    Budget basic tools
    Email queues, often overseas.
    Global SaaS vendors
Help desks working US or European hours.
    Beak LIMS
Support from Harare, Zimbabwe (UTC+2). Email and ticket on every plan; priority phone and chat on Professional and Enterprise.

Why per-seat pricing costs small labs more

Most international cloud LIMS charge per user, and their entry plans come with a minimum number of seats. Here is what that means for a laboratory in the region.

  • Minimum seat packs

Per-seat vendors: Entry plans often start at 5 users. A lab with 3 staff still pays for 5.

Beak LIMS: Starter covers 2 to 5 users. Three staff pay the same as five.

  • Every hire adds a seat

Per-seat vendors: Each new technician adds $120–$275 to the monthly bill.

Beak LIMS: Add staff within your plan's range and the price does not move.

  • A year upfront

Per-seat vendors: Several vendors bill annually only, so the first invoice is the whole year.

Beak LIMS: Pay monthly, or pay annually and save 10%.

  • Integrations on top

Per-seat vendors: Instrument integration is often billed separately, from about $1,500 a year.

Beak LIMS: 1, 2 or 4 instrument connections are included in the plan price.

Why labs choose Beak LIMS over cheap alternatives

  • The module trap

A cheap tool often gives you a blank database. Once you need reflex rules, microbiology or instrument results, the upgrade fees start. Beak LIMS includes them from day one.

  • The cost of manual workarounds

Software that cannot talk to your analyzers means technicians retype results. That costs hours, invites transcription errors and gives auditors questions to ask.

  • Security and backups

Every plan includes fully managed hosting, daily database backups, TLS encryption, monitoring, firewall and OS maintenance, so your sample history is backed up every day.

Where global software struggles in African laboratories

  • Offshore contracts and payments

Recurring payments to an overseas vendor through local banking channels can be slow and hard to approve. Beak LIMS is contracted with a supplier in Harare, Zimbabwe.

  • Built for another market

Workflows designed around US or European labs rarely fit regional test volumes, staffing or unstable power and connectivity.

  • Distant support

When something breaks during the morning rush, a help desk in another time zone may not answer until your day is half over.

What we deliver here in Africa

  • Built for regional realities

Beak LIMS is developed by Beak Insights in Harare, Zimbabwe, around the sample volumes, workflows and reporting of laboratories in the region. Enterprise sites with unreliable internet can run an offline edge installation that syncs later.

  • Transparent, predictable scaling

A fixed fee per plan, sized by users and accessions. When your lab grows past its plan, we talk through the next one. Service does not stop mid-month.

  • A partner, not just a login

Structured implementation, remote training for administrators and key users, and support from engineers who understand your environment.

Comparison questions

Is every module really included on Starter?

Yes. Every plan runs the same Beak LIMS with every module. Plans differ by users, monthly accessions, included instrument connections and support. Multiple branches, on-premise hosting and offline edge sites are Enterprise options.

What if we hire more staff?

Add users up to your plan's range at no extra cost. Beyond the range you can add users at $15 each per month, or move to the next plan.

Why not use a free open-source system?

Open-source systems are free to licence, but someone still has to host, configure, back up and support them. Beak LIMS includes all of that in one monthly price, from one accountable supplier.

Where do your market price ranges come from?

From published 2026 industry cost guides, cited under the comparison tables with the date we checked them. Prices vary by vendor, region and contract, so always ask any vendor for an itemised quote.

Ready to move your lab off spreadsheets?

Don't run your laboratory on a tool that leaves out what you need. Compare our plans, or talk to the team that builds Beak LIMS.
